Forces Armees et Polices (FAP) emerges with three wins out of three games played respectively against UDLA with a score of 64 – 50, against Onyx with a score of 51 – 60 and finally against Le Nkam Basketball with a score of 61 – 65..
It has been a long road and strewn with pitfalls, but they succeeded. Relegated to third or fourth place in the standings for too long, they finally arrived at the prestigious position of champions of Cameroon, a first in the history of this club: “It is a great satisfaction for us to be champions of Cameroon. It is true that with the coronavirus, it was not easy during training, we have worked really hard this season to have the title of Champions of Cameroon”. Says Landry Bilong, player of Forces Armees et Polices Basketball team. “It’s a great feeling of satisfaction not only because we won this title, but above all for the respect of the program that we set up 3 years ago to achieve this result. It is a title which, beyond any consideration, is historic for the life of FAP men’s basketball and for myself as a coach ”. Says coach Gilles Kouamo, very moved.
We came close to the worst, namely the cancellation of the season due to the Covid-19 pandemic which caused the suspension of the season for six months. As for the teams, training and regrouping were done in a very limited number and in compliance with barrier measures such as social distancing and hand washing before and after each session. In addition, the teams encountered big funding problem, being the case with Nkam Basketball: “I cannot say it enough, the biggest challenge this year has been funding. The fact that funds for an association only come from one person does not make it obvious. It was very difficult ”. Confides Tity Belate. A situation that is all too familiar to the local teams who, even after having been champions of Cameroon and braving the Covid-19 pandemic, receive nothing more than a trophy and medals
